17th Oct

We worked on our deversed piece with the subway train, we looked at a few things abou8t the 7/7 incdent since our play is like that we looked at videos and a few things got from online about what people thought and there worrys and then we tried to improve it by adding in a few sounds.
we also improved how we did the play we made it so people got on the train at the start and how people react to each other then after the train stops because of the bomb we broke up into three groups and did a freeze frame and while one group did a small bit after the crash they froze and another and then the other.

My Monologue 2: Adult child Dead child

This monologue is a really hard for me as I have a speech disabilty so with all the commas and how much there is together it is challanging but I chose this piece because it was a challange. Once in a while it can improve you greatly if you put the effort in. The other reason is that I can't really think emotionally and can only think logically, but the problem is the way this person speaks is emotional as he wants to get all the things that have troubled them over the years (I'm using them as it is not really said if the charactor is male or female)

I was working on this and I thought that if I used my austism I could do it better and I was right, the only problem I'm still having is learning the lines. The things I know the lines but when I try to act it out I forget so I just need to learn on remembering the lines when I'm doing it.

11th oct

At the beginning of the lesson we played a few focus games like laying on our backs and counting to 10, down from 10 and doing the alphabet with out two people saying the same letter or number at a time, otherwise we had to start from the beginning.
Another one we did was getting a stick, holding it so it points up and down and holding it in the middle and then walking around and giving eye contact before passing it on to them.
The second last one we did was going into somewhat a circle and then walking towards someone making sure they have eye contact to you, then they had to make eye contact to someone and walk towards them.
And the last game we played was another focus game where two people had to make eye contact with someone and then they would have to walk towards the middle and one had to roll and the other jump over them without giving hand signals beforehand.

After we did these focus games we worked on monologues again and the one I focused on the most this time was the one I need to work on the most which is my "Adult Child Dead Child" since I can't seem to remember lines for it but I'm doing it over and over again in my head and acting it out to try and remember it because it is the only thing letting me down on it. I think the way I act and the blocking I have come up with is great and I got good feed back from Sonya when I showed her it but when I showed it to the rest of the class I had to look at the script and each time I do this I go out of charactor which is bad, so if I can just remember the lines I think it will be great.

After we did this us 2nd years had to come up with a devised piece of work so we went into another room and ran ideas past each other like, how about being stranded on a island after a plalne crash but we thought it was done too much so we changed to it being stuck in a underground train system.
After we had decided on this we each chose what type of charactor they wanted to be, in the end we came up with two friends thinking it's a tv show, the bomber, a business women with kids, a nurse, someone who just panics a lot, the person who trys to keep everything under control who is also the target, a dead body and me, a under cover police man who is after the bomber that everyone thinks it is, a red herring.

10th Oct

We practiced our monologues and I focused on "Our Day Out". I still need to work on it a bit since I need to do an accent for it so I will still need to work on it. I also worked on my "Adult Child Dead Child" and thought of something that I could use since the person in the monologue has a mental illness/ disability either one. I thought since I am autistic I could us that for my monologue which worked really well. The only problem I have for it now is learning the lines for it.

After we did this we looked at audition etiquette. Things like how to wait before coming in, how to walk into a audition (body language, posture, etc.) and also make sure that no matter what the people auditioning are doing, you keep focused.

When I came in I thought I did well with the greetings but when I did my monolouge I paused for a few seconds because I got distracted, which I need to learn not to do. I think I did well with answering a few questions and doing thank yous and good byes.

When I was on the panel and watched people I thought they did really well, but a few of them you could see they were nervous with what they did with their legs and one needs to make sure we can see her face.

I got feedback and the thing I missed out was telling them what the monologue I was going to do was, and after I finished I just stood there and smiled. I have to make sure I do not look at the floor and make sure I keep eye contact as well as make sure that you stand still as well and not move about too much.

4th October

When we got in we were told the teacher doing our dance was not coming in so we played some focusing games while treating it like a workshop audition.

The first game we did was what I call Ladders where you get people to sit opposite each other in two lines and then number them and when you say that number the two people have to go up the ladder with out standing on any one and then run down to the bottom of the ladder and try to get to their place before anyone else.

The second game we played was a team working game where one person stands on one side of the room with keys behind them while the others start on the opposite side and try to get to the other side with out being seen moving or they have to go back and then try to get the keys from one side to the other using teamwork.

The third game we did was Sheriff even I think this is more fun than a focusing game but you still need to focus in this game as you need to focus on who the person in the middle is pointing at and if that person is next to you or is you.

The fourth game we played was another team building game, we got split into 4 groups with about 6 people in each group and then were told to make something in a minute that could work, like we were told to make a car, so four of us got on the floor as wheels one was the boot and another was the driver. Another one was a canrval ride so we did teacups and got into pairs to make the teacups and I went into the middle. Then we did a time machine so three of us made the time machine one person to go into it and another to come out as time changes because me playing a t-rex die because of the first one sneezing on me.

The fifth game we played was more of a task than game. What we had to do was a freeze frame game where we all sat down and then were told what the theme of the stage was and then make a freeze frame so the place looked like what the theme was. The first one we did was a park, and then a supermarket and lastly we did a elementary school nativity play. In the park I was someones dad, in the supermarket I was a janitor and the last one I was a father recording the play.

The sixth game we played was fun we were split into 7 groups each group having about 5 people in it and had ten minites to make a play that lasted no longer than three minutes so we chatted about what we could do and at the end I said I would be someone that would die. One person saId she wanted to be the person to kill me and another saId he wanted to be a narrator so we made a health and safety video with three scenarios.

The last game we did was a improvisation where two people started off, then when someone wanted to join they had to say "freeze" and then take the postion of one of the two and start a new scenario. At the end, people were chosen mostly likely to be picked.

After we did these we got to work on our monologues for half a hour, then some people showed them back and then we did did a quick 10 mins of doing them and showing them back. I showed back My safe option which is "Midsummer Nights dream/Oberon" and I think I did ok. I guess I missed 2 lines I think but I was ok with my blocking.

3rd October

We watched two videos of someone explaining about how to do auditions and what to bring to it. For instance, even though we are only doing 3 monologues it would be better doing two Shakespeares and two modern apparently.

After we watched the videos we started to do our monologues again this time we did the ones we did not know the most, mine being the "Adult Child Dead Child" since I can't rember it very easily I know the first two paragraphs but that's it and I still have no idea about the play since it is so hard to find anything about it on the internet. I will have to try to find it in the LRC but last time I was there I'm pretty sure I did not see it. So I have no idea what the charctor I'm playing is like.
